Subsidies for solar panels in Luxembourg (2026)

The State supports self-consumption photovoltaic systems with the Klimabonus, which your installer deducts directly from the invoice. Most communes add their own aid on top.

The State Klimabonus

• Solar panels: P × (1 155 − 33 × P) €, where P is the peak power in kWp (at least 2 kWp). From 15 kWp, the aid is 10 000 €.
• Battery: Q × (500 − 500/18 × Q) €, where Q is the usable capacity in kWh (at least 2 kWh). From 9 kWh, the aid is 2 250 €.
• The aid can never exceed the real cost of the installation, VAT included.

Prefinancing: you only pay the difference

Since 2026 you no longer advance the State aid: your installer deducts it from the final invoice and claims it from the Ministry of the Economy. For this:

• the installer must be listed in the official register of installers approved for prefinancing;
• the deposit may not exceed 30 % of the price (incl. VAT) of the signed quote;
• you sign with the installer a document confirming you choose prefinancing, then a mandate that the installer forwards to the Ministry;
• the final invoice states the panel power, the battery capacity, the aid and the deposits.

The order must be signed by 31 December 2029 at the latest; the aid must be applied for by 31 December 2031. From 1 January 2027, prefinancing becomes part of the Klimabonus 2026 scheme.

Main conditions

• A new installation for self-consumption: the electricity is used first in the building. You give up the guaranteed feed-in tariff for the whole lifetime of the installation; surplus can be sold at market price.
• The building is in Luxembourg, has at least one dwelling, and you are its owner (or co-owner).
• Panels on the roof, the façade, integrated in the building, or on a carport or garden shed.
• No aid for leased installations, nor for businesses that need a business permit.
• A battery added later to an existing installation follows the classic procedure (application after the works).

Your commune's aid

Many communes add aid: a percentage of the Klimabonus, a fixed amount or an amount per kWp, often capped. It is usually paid after the installation, on request to the commune. See your commune's page for details.
